EPIC Berhad today continued its commitment to community upliftment through the Zakat Distribution Programme, a CSR initiative dedicated to supporting the local community and strengthening social wellbeing. Organised in collaboration with the Terengganu Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIDAM), the programme reflects the shared resolve of both organisations to nurture a culture of compassion and to extend meaningful, high-impact assistance to those who need it most.
The distribution marks the utilisation of employer wakalah returns or scheduled zakat deductions amounting to RM68,529, which MAIDAM returned to EPIC Berhad for community-focused outreach. The first phase, carried out today, saw RM34,000 channelled to 100 deserving recipients.
Setting the tone for the programme, participants were first engaged in a Bicara Dakwah Ibadah Zakat session titled “Harta Berkat, Ummah Sejahtera,” delivered by Director of Institut Modal Insan Terengganu Sejahtera (i-MiTs), YBrs. Tuan Haji Ustaz Kamaruzaman Abdullah. His sharing offered a refreshing and insightful perspective on the transformative role of zakat in encouraging social equilibrium, uplifting communities, and serving as a catalyst for holistic ummah development. It provided participants with not only knowledge, but a renewed sense of purpose before moving into the distribution ceremony.
Zakat assistance was then presented to 80 individuals from the asnaf poor and needy categories, as well as 20 students currently pursuing their studies. This allocation reflects the programme’s emphasis on addressing the essential needs of vulnerable groups while supporting educational continuity as a key driver of long-term social progress.
The distribution was carried out by Group Chief Executive Officer of EPIC Berhad, Dr. Ts. Haji Muhtar Suhaili, and Group Chief Financial Officer, Encik Wan Mohd Azilah Wan Abdullah, witnessed by Chief Executive Officer of MAIDAM, YBhg. Dato' Prof. Madya Dr. Ahmad Azrin Adnan.
Earlier in the morning, prior to the programme, EPIC Berhad also joined Terengganu Menteri Besar and Kemaman Parliament Member, YAB Dato' Seri Ir. Dr. Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, in delivering assistance to Pusat Asuhan Tunas Islam (PASTI) Raudhatul Athfal in Kampung Bakau Tinggi, Chukai, which recently lost nearly half of its building in a fire. The contribution provided immediate support to help the centre rebuild.
Collectively, this initiative strengthens EPIC Berhad’s broader CSR framework, which prioritises community wellbeing, human capital development, and the enhancement of social values. EPIC Berhad remains committed to driving impactful programmes that bring lasting benefits to the people of Terengganu, in line with efforts to advance the state’s socioeconomic growth and resilience.
